Yes, it’s another one of those food trends I’ve been seeing everywhere lately. So, naturally I had to re-create it! Today was my second time ever trying it out and I had to share it with you 🙂

First things first: What is overnight oats? Well, it is (literally) rolled oats soaked in a liquid overnight. There is absolutely no cooking involved! And you have to make it the night before, which makes it the perfect breakfast for us busy girls!

The most common combination is equal parts oats + liquid and/or yogurt. So, for mine, I used

  • 1/4 cup of oats (I know it’s not much, but I had a fruit plate and oats make me REALLY full)
  • 1/4 cup of almond milk
  • a tablespoon of yogurt

This is now your base. You can use (ANY) liquid you’d like – chocolate almond milk, water, soy milk, flavoured yogurt, etc.

For your toppings, you can add just about anything! You can even add them the night before (unless it’s crunchy). So today, I topped mine with:

  • tablespoon of vanilla yogurt
  • tablespoon of almond butter
  • crunchy granola
  • almond slices

You can literally add whatever you’d like! I’d suggest your favourite fruits (berries, especially!), nut butters and anything and everything. Another reason why I love this is because it allows for “safe” experimentation. Perfect for beginners who don’t normally modify their food.

Mine was really good! Very filling and since it was cold, it tasted like a dessert! I urge you to try this because it is SO EASY and you likely already have oats and milk in your home 🙂

Amazing idea I saw on Pinterest:

Use an old nut butter jar as your container! LOVE this idea! Now I can’t wait until mine is done so I can do this 🙂 (Photo via Kath Eats Real Food)

Please let me know if you end up trying this (DOOO ITTT!!!). If you upload a pic, be sure to tag me on Twitter: @MariaAguilar or on Instagram: @beautyandabite (where I post lots of healthy food ideas!)

Hehe if it’s only a few pieces of dark chocolate, it will be okay!! This was also my first time having oats COLD! A little strange at first, but let me know what you think!
