How I Became an Influencer Before Influencers Were a Thing

I originally shared the following slides on my social media and thought they deserved a spot on the blog, too!

the year is 2000,
the internet was a baby
no ads, no social media, no influencers, not even videos. Just vibes.
2006, i dropped out of business school, moved out, travelled and decided to work in the restaurant industry while I "figured things out"
2009 - this was the year i hit rock bottom. everything went wrong. i took up bad habits, i made the wrong choices. my plans failed, i failed myself.
2010 - I took control of my life and health. i had to unlearn many things i thought i knew. i went back to school and got my bachelor's degree, still working, doing unpaid internships
2013 onwards - i launched beautyandabite.com my beauty and lifestyle blog and it became a top blog in toronto
sadly it wasnt all sunshine and rainbows, the blog grew too quickly. i couldn't keep up, i was too inexperienced, too naive. the industry was in its infancy and there was no data, truly just vibes.
so, i changed gears to focus on my marketing career. 3 internships, freelance gigs later, i accepted my first corporate role leading social media for a toy and entertainment company.
it was the best decision i could have made
i have learned so much
it is truly part of my ikigai
